North Korean hackers have stolen the credit card details of online shoppers on European and American websites, a report has claimed, as the regime tries to offset the cost of international sanctions with profits from cybercrime.
The hack is the latest in a series of scams by North Korea and catalogued by the United Nations, the US government, and private companies, ranging from bank robbery to online fraud.
“Previously, North Korean hacking activity was mostly restricted to banks and South Korean crypto markets,” the Dutch company Sansec BV said in its report. “They have now extended their portfolio with digital skimming.”
