Hackers obtain Covid-19 patient database in protest at treatment of Indian health workers

by chief

Hackers claim they have accessed the personal data of 80,000 Covid-19 patients in New Delhi stored on a local government website, in protest at the treatment of beleaguered healthcare workers.

The Kerala Cyber Hackers group says it broke into the Delhi Government’s Delhi State Health Mission website in less than 10 minutes on Saturday night.

While they posted screenshots of what appears to be a patient record sheet containing names, ages, addresses and Covid-19 test results, the group says it will not release the private information.

“We are not satisfied with the Delhi Government’s approach towards the healthcare personnel… Thus, to show our protest, we were on an errand to obliterate [the] Delhi State Health Mission website,” the Kerala Cyber Hackers wrote in a Facebook post.

“We were appalled to witness sensitive data stored in these servers without any security… The government needs to be very careful and take every possible security measure to protect the personal information of citizens”.
